We at Lights and Bubbles, specialise in artful soaps and candles made with natural and sustainable ingredients.
Soaps:
All our soaps are made from scratch with full control of the ingredients used. Our soaps are made in small batches, using the old-fashioned method of making soap (cold process). This technique requires a lot of preparation and a minimum of 4-6 weeks curing time to ensure a hard, long lasting, lovely bar of soap.
We use original, tried and tested luxurious recipes and make everything by hand, using skin loving vegan oils and butters such as shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, olive oil. Each bar is unique and varies slightly in design, colour (hue), size, shape and weight.
Candles:
Our coconut and soy wax blend helps our candles burn cleaner and longer, without being overpowering. Our candles are produced with high quality fragrance oils that offer a nice, balanced scent throw, so you can use your candle each day. Lights and Bubbles standard size candles fill a medium-sized room nicely. Should you be burning in a larger space or a room with high ceiling, we would recommend two or more of our standard size candles for optimal scent throw.
We also take great care in choosing beautiful, re-usable containers for our candles, so that you can repurpose them once your candle is done.
Soap is made from a combination of water, sodium hydroxide (aka caustic soda or lye) and oils/butters. When these ingredients are combined a chemical reaction called saponification takes place, transforming the ingredients into glycerol and soap. Lye has been used for centuries in natural soap making and when used correctly, it can help create a safe, all-natural product. When handmade soap is properly formulated and cured there is no sodium hydroxide remaining in the final soap bar.
As much as I try my hardest to duplicate batches, I make the soaps and candles all by hand in small batches. No two items are ever the same. Although the product you receive will resemble the one depicted in the photo very closely, the pictures are for reference only. Colour, colour hue, sizes and design may vary.
All our ingredients come from companies that support sustainable and cruelty free practices that never support animal testing. Doing things the right way is important to us.
Notes in perfumery are descriptors of scents that can be sensed upon the application of a fragrance.
Notes are separated into three classes; top/head notes, middle/heart notes, and base notes; which denote groups of scents which can be sensed with respect to the time after the application of a fragrance. These notes are created carefully with knowledge of the evaporation process and intended use of the fragrance.
Soy wax is a very soft wax and can be vulnerable to environmental elements. When not in use keep your soy candle in a cool, dry, dust free place in order to prevent discoloration, melting and cracking.
Ensuring the safe and proper use of our candles is our number one priority! Please read and follow the below instructions carefully:
• Never leave burning candle unattended, and keep it away from children and pets
• To avoid tunnelling burn your candle until the melt pool reaches the edges of the vessel
• Always trim the wick to 5 mm before each use
• Never burn candle for more than 4 hours at a time, the ideal burning time is 2-3 maximum at a time
• Burn candle on heat safe surface away from any flammable object
• Do not burn candle all the way down. We recommend leaving minimum 5mm of wax in the container
• Keep melting pool clear of matches, debris, wick trimmings
• It is best to use a snuffer to extinguish your candle, do not blow out
Please let the soap dry completely between uses and keep it on a draining soap dish. You can find some in our store, Click Here if you would like to add this accessory to your cart.
Why do I need a soap dish? because handmade soaps are made without all the cheap fillers and harsh detergents, they don’t stay hard if they are kept in puddles of water. They are made with a high content of oils and natural butters and for this reason they need to be kept dry between uses.
Just putting them on the side of the sink or tub isn’t enough and you might find they stick as they are still wet. The best thing is to allow them to air as much as possible and a soap dish is perfect for this, as it allows good ventilation and keeps your bar dry on all sides.
Commercial soap typically isn’t ‘soap’ per se, and instead is made from synthetic detergents. These detergents are very popular on the commercial market as they lather very quickly, however they may strip the natural oils from your skin, leaving you with your skin feeling dry, and tight after use. This is the very reason I started researching soapmaking many years ago, as a way to find a solution to my irritated, dry skin.
A well-crafted bar of handmade soap is beautiful, nourishing and a pleasure to use every time you pick it up.
Handmade soap is different to commercial soap because handmade soap naturally contains glycerin which is often removed via the commercial process.
Glycerin is a humectant (fancy word, I know) which attracts moisture from the air to the skin and is one of the things that makes handmade soap so incredible. It’s an inbuilt moisturising element that means every wash will leave your skin feeling clean but then equally restored.
We appreciate your interest and are grateful for your support. We make our products in very small batches, and change designs regularly. We try our best to keep all your favourites in stock, but the design and/or colour hue will sometimes be different to the previous batch. Soap and candle making is my artistic medium and while I have some regular designs I love creating and coming up with new ideas.
Our products are all made by hand, they are all unique pieces, that’s the beauty of handmade.
The coconut-soy wax blend used for our candles is very sensitive to temperature fluctuation, so you might see ‘sweating’ on the top of your candle or some weird spots on your candle container called ‘wet spots’. This is just cosmetic and does not affect the performance of your candle.
As for imperfections on our soaps this is what makes each bar unique.
We have a full ingredient and scent description for all our products, using the description provided by our suppliers. Please read the description carefully and choose your items accordingly. We do not offer a refund or return on ‘change of mind’ purchases or if you don’t like the smell of the product. Buying our ‘Find your new favourite’ option for soaps or tea light size sample candles is a safe way to try different scents before committing to a full-size product.
All ingredients are detailed on every listing and on the label of each bar. While we are very clear about the ingredients used in our products, it is up to you, the customer, to do their research and decide what works best for you. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Lights and Bubbles will not accept returns or refunds based on allergic reactions.
